Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
For most countries, Labour Day is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers’ Day, which occurs on 1 May. On this day every year, Labour Day or May Day is celebrated in India with a public holiday in all states and Union Territories to honour the contribution of working men and women across the country.
For other countries, Labour Day is celebrated on a different date, often one with special significance for the labour movement in that country. Labour Day is a public holiday in many countries.
In Maharashtra State, we celebrate Maharashtra Day too on the same day. In our school too we celebrated Labour Day & Maharashtra Day. Fr. Baptist Monteiro was the chief guest. The honor of flag hoisting on this day was given to Tr. Sneha & a short message in the form of a speech was given by Tr. Sonal of the Junior College.
